About the Juried Show

Eighty-five Friends of Contemporary Art members submitted their work for consideration by exhibition juror Elisabeth Sussman. Initial judging was done by Sussman based on CD or slide entries. She considered up to twenty works by each artist, then narrowed the field to eleven artists. Sussman made her final selections by viewing works in person in July 2007. The twenty works she chose were created by seven artists working in video, drawing, sculpture and installation.

In keeping with the intent of any juried exhibition, Art on the Edge brings fresh faces to the museum's galleries. Five of the seven artists in the exhibition have never shown at the museum before. All but one artist lives and works in New Mexico.

Friends of Contemporary Art (FOCA), a support group of the Museum of New Mexico Foundation, works actively as an advocate for contemporary art by supporting exhibitions at the New Mexico Museum of Art, helping the museum acquire contemporary art for its collection, and organizing programs for its membership and the community.
